Victorique de Blois

Victorique de Blois & Kujo Kazuya

Okie dokie. This anime has only recently been finished, so I can review it now :) Haha.

"Gray Wolf" is the term given to a person with exceptionally high intellect and comes from a suburban village known as Seyrun. Social outcasts in more ways than one, the people of Seyrun are a little eccentric and have strange traditions. Here, Cordelia Gallo was falsely accused and banished from her village after the murder of the Village Head for which she was charged. Alone and unfamiliar in the outside world, she wanders from place to place, seeking refuge wherever she can.

On the other hand, in Sauville - a French fictional setting in Europe - Kujo Kazuya goes to St. Marguerite Academy. There, people have a common interest in ghost stories and legends. So, unfortunately, when Kujo Kazuya arrived at the academy, he was dubbed the Reaper Who Comes in the Spring, obviously because he transferred in the spring. They called him the Reaper because with that title came the legend that whoever transferred in the spring brought death along with him/her.

To quote Wikipedia, "by some twist of fate", he met the sole person in his classroom whom he had never once seen in class, Victorique de Blois, in the academy's library, which was a skyscraper by itself.

Victorique de Blois, whom Kujo once thought was a life-sized doll figure when he first saw her, is a short figure, with green eyes and golden hair. She is constantly seen dressed in clothes that has many frills and also has a weird habit of smoking a pipe whenever she is deep in thought, though there's never any smoke coming out of it. Granted with a "Well of Wisdom", as she calls it, she has a very high IQ, so she looks down on practically everyone because she thinks they are inferior.

However, unlike what everyone else would think - that she is never in class because she thinks she's already smart enough - she is always in the library because of a completely different reason. As the anime progresses, Kujo meets Grevil de Blois, Victorique's half-brother. Why half? You see, Victorique was a child from her father's second marriage and due to some circumstances that I shall not disclose here, was confined under the de Blois' mansion where she lived most of her life in solitude.

Anyways, Grevil de Blois, in Sauville, was a very highly respected detective and, while he really has no knowledge in crime-solving, he relies on Victorique's "Well of Wisdom", where she reconstructs the crime with fragments of Chaos. He, of course, reports it immediately and gets all the credit, which annoys the hell out of Kujo.

Kujo and Victorique, at the beginning of the series, showed particular dislike in each other, but as time passes, they begin to slowly care and cherish the friendship that they have, which was crucial, considering what they went through by the end of the series.

This 24-episode anime ends properly, of course, and I'm very happy it did. If not, I would've started this review with... Wait, I don't think I would've reviewed it, then. I got my sister started on this series, but she has yet to see it till the end. She doesn't think she's nice, but then again, she's a very hard person to please when it comes to anime.

That aside, now for the shocking part of my review: the character's voice actors/actresses.
