Suisei no Gargantia Ep 8

Whoo~!!

I know, I know. This episode is WAY overdue and I won't make any excuses – I was too lazy to review any episodes. However, after the final episode came out two days ago, I've decided to see this through and review the remaining episodes.

So you can expect a lot of Gargantia episode reviews after this. But for now, here's:

Alright, so where did the anime leave off the previous episode?

Oh right, Red decided to leave Earth and Captain Fairlock suddenly got a heart attack (or a stroke, I can't really tell).

Of course, Ridget and the other crew members are worried as hell, especially since it doesn't look good for the Captain.

And, as I had predicted, in the previous episode review, Fairlock really bit the dust.

T'was really hard on Ridget since he was like a second father to her after her own father, the previous Fleet Captain, passed on.

You gotta admit, it's not news, though.

After news spread that Captain Fairlock had kicked the bucket, everyone prepared themselves for his funeral.

Ridget was fussing about something, but I can't for the life of me remember what about.

All I know was that she wasn't prepared to say her goodbyes.

Back with Captain Flange, Ridget was trying to clarify his plans to follow Pinion on his crazy venture to explore the Hideous' base.

Flange was determined to do what was planned, although Ridget wasn't particularly pleased.

During the funeral, many gathered and shed tears for the fallen captain.

I'm just grasping at straws here but I'm gonna go with my idea that it's sand they're filling the coffin with?

I'm guessing it was customary to say a few things after they put their fill in the coffin.

Returning to Ridget, she was busy gazing at her black funeral robe as the funeral was proceeding.

Obviously she had issues with his sudden and abrupt death (although considering his medical condition and age, it's not really sudden and abrupt at all).

She then picked up a family picture of when she was younger. She looked really cute in her small dress. 

Liked her hairstyle too :P

As you can imagine, Amy was bothered with Red's previous outburst that he wanted to leave Earth.

Hell, I would be too if a hunk like that was leaving me :P

 Amy couldn't bring herself to approach him, though, so she just stared off into space as she absorbed everything.

I guess I forgot to mention that Melty, one of Amy's friends, was leaving with Flange because her grandpa was part of his crew.

Saaya suggested Amy follow them so she wouldn't be separated with Red but Amy declined, to Saaya's relief.

Meanwhile, Bellows was consoling Ridget.

When Amy went home, Bebel asked her if Red was really leaving.

The topic caught Amy off-guard and she started crying because she knew she couldn't possibly do anything to stop him from going.

Bebel was really upset too, though I'm not sure if it over Red leaving or the fact that it's causing his sister pain.

Shortly after, Bebel approached Red while he was carving flutes again, next to Chamber.

Obviously, it was going to be about whether he was going to leave Gargantia. Red decided that he would follow Pinion and his crew to salvage the home-base of the Hideous, since he couldn't leave Earth even if he wanted to.

Just as the people of Gargantia were going to push Fairlock's coffin into the ocean, Ridget finally came to her senses and rushed to meet him one last time.

She expressed her deep and heartfelt gratitude towards his constant care and then said goodbye. 

After the coffin was released into the ocean, Ridget addressed the people of Gargantia as the new Fleet Captain.

Of course, this was all by Captain Fairlock's request. It's not like they decided overnight that she should be the captain.

With everyone's support, Ridget felt she could survive with the burden of being captain.

I also like her new hairstyle XD

The next day (I'm assuming), Amy is gazing outside her window when she sees Red approaching their house.

She welcomes him in, of course. Turns out Red just wanted to say his final goodbyes to Amy and Bebel before leaving with Pinion.

Red also gave Bebel one of the flutes he carved. You know, because Red carves about a dozen of those every day -.-

As they leave on Flange's ship, Amy watches from the deck of Gargantia with heavy feelings whilst Ridget does so with mixed ones.

And that's how everything went down that week :) 

Honestly speaking, the reason I was too lazy to review this was probably because it was really slow-paced and boring. I won't say that it's not a breath of fresh air not to have everything smacked into your face as the show progresses, but it felt like this episode was being filled in with unnecessary attempts to make Red stay by Amy and Bebel.

Not to mention, it was really predictable that it would be the two of them that asked him not to leave. I was half-hoping Bellows would try to make Red see sense because she felt very strongly about Pinion messing with the Hideous' hideout.

And I have a few questions: Where did they get the sand? And if everybody was disposed of like how the captain was, does that mean piles of coffins with dead people in them are at the bottom of the sea?

Just saying, they might wanna think this through the next time they plan some fancy funeral for someone important.

Yeah, I know, it's pweety, isn't it? 

This episode doesn't raise many questions, and I guess I'm grateful for that. And the fact that I thought it was boring doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad episode. I will say, however, that I thought Amy was overdoing it with the "I'm-so-sad-Red's-leaving" expressions. 

Though, naturally, I'm not complaining. I love the two of them :P

Guess that's it, then. I'm glad I don't have to say I can't wait for the next episode because I'VE ALREADY WATCHED IT!! :P

Today's million-dollar question: What time is the best time to wake up?

Apparently, for me, it's 12:20p.m.

Ola, anyway :P

Anyway, once again, it wasn't on purpose. Honestly, I didn't hear my phone ring at all this time. I know I switched it off? Well, I always place my phone in the box-shaped thingymabob next to my bed. And, whenever I hear alarm go off, I switch it off and then put my phone underneath my pillow.

Well, today I woke up with my phone already under my pillow -.-

That aside, after I got up, I went to the bathroom and bathed. Before that I went out to the shop to send my aunt's wallet to her, though. The haze was unbelievable too because I could hardly see past a few buildings.

Anyways, after bathing, I played Dungeon Hunter 4 on my iPad Mini on my parents' bed. I don't usually do that but my dad was in there watching some Chinese show so he had the air-conditioner on.

Hehe~

At around 2p.m, though, my mom ordered the both of us to go downstairs to have a light lunch. Good thing is my aunt bought my favourite ham-egg bun.

:P

Had a cup of Enercal too, with my bun. After wolfing down my light lunch, I went outside to play with Pepper for a while. She is just the cutest thing with her large eyes and rapid breathing.

Haha.

That aside, after I got back inside, I went into my mom's music room to feast on the room's air-conditioner. Mwahaha. Played Dungeon Hunter 4 again whilst eavesdropping on my mom's conversation with her sister. She (my aunt) was complaining about her maid again. I don't blame her of course, because she really is a pain in the ass. The maid, I mean.

Not long after, at about 4:45p.m, we decided to pre-celebrate my grandpa's birthday at Aaliyah, which is the same place we celebrated my grandaunt's 80th birthday.

Mom left the room after making reservations because she wanted to catch up on some sleep before we left for dinner.

The sad thing is, we were this close to going up to Genting for dinner to avoid the haze but my mom decided it was a work day the next day so we shouldn't go too far.

The irony here is that it was her idea.

Lol, I know.

And, after she left, I decided to draft this post as well as categorise all the law cases and jurist quotes before we go. Am watching Big Bang Theory too, so time passes faster.

*Pause*

Sorry about that, Pepper was caught in the house. She squeezed through one of the holes of the gate by the sliding door and my brother saw her and caught her in time. Haha.

She's so cute.

Cutest part was when I put her back outside, she came right back in the same way she entered. Caught her again and went to put her out while my brother closed the sliding door so she couldn't get back in.

:P

When I sat back down, since I was watching the 14th episode of Big Bang Theory (which was the Siri episode), I tried it out on my iPad Mini. I was tempted because I heard Rajesh Koothrapali say: "Siri, play some smooth jazz."

I tried it out on mine, but Siri said: "I'm sorry, I couldn't find any smooth jazz in your Music" so I tried: "Play Summertime Of Our Lives" instead. The miracle was that it actually worked!!

Haha.

Know what this means? I'm gonna be really addicted to using Siri now :P

That's about it, then.

長い間ね?

Today's million-dollar question: How many days has it been since I last wrote about my days on my blog?

I know, I know. It's been a great deal of time since I've written anything of my day on my blog. I do apologise. At least I starting again?

:P

Anyhow, I'm glad I am doing this again because I've grown quite bored of writing reviews of restaurants and anime and manga.

That aside, I woke up close to eleven today. Not good, I know, but I didn't do it on purpose. I mean, I heard my alarm go off but I was too tired to get up. PLus, I set it at 7 O.O

So after I woke up, at 10 something, I went to freshen up and crossed my fingers as I tried connecting to my house's WiFi. I gotta say, sometimes I just hate it when the WiFi acts up. And it doesn't happen only once in a while. It happens every night!

That's another thing! Why only at night? I works fast as hell in the morning but once it hits 8 in the evening, it begins malfunctioning.

Ugh... And it all had to happen as I was reading Kaze Hikaru. Well, yeah, I was reading it again last night before going to bed. I just love Okita; he's so cute!! Especially after he realised he likes Sei too. Haha.

Come to think of it, Kinokuniya should have new volumes out by now. Gotta make a mental note to myself to go to KLCC and shop for them :P

Didn't have anything for breakfast. Hell, it was already 11 o'clock, I didn't think I was eligible for breakfast anymore. So I played a little Dungeon Hunter 4 on my iPad Mini whilst watching The Nanny episodes on my laptop.

For lunch I was a little naughty. You see, it was already 2:30pm and my brother wasn't gotta go out to buy anything for us so I...

... Ordered McD's.

Yeah, I know. I should be punished. That's why I'll start dieting tomorrow.

The rest of my day was pretty much just watching The Nanny on my laptop and playing Dungeon Hunter 4. I also studied my Business Studies and Law towards the end of the day.

My dinner? Oh, I thought you'd never ask.

I was planning on staying home and not really eating anything, you know, as penance for the sinful lunch. But, my parents kind of talked me into going with my brother to my grandparents' place to have dinner with my grandpa so... I did.

Went to Paradigm Mall and ate at Chili's. That was not my idea, by the way. It was my brother's. He wanted those refillable nachos, except after he found out their price, he decided eating it alone wouldn't be worth RM13++, even if it was bottomless. Haha.

After a really filling dinner – despite the fact I shared something with my grandpa, my brother bought Starbucks to drink before we all went home. I bought 2 Original pretzels from Auntie Anne's too, because I thought 2 things:

1. My aunt might be hungry; and
2. It was better than Hot&Roll, right?

:P

So after dropping my grandpa home – and playing DH4 for a while – my brother and I went home. I finished one pretzel whilst watching Ratatouille then watched Nanny McPhee 2 and Taylor Swift's Journey to Fearless while writing my blog post draft. Haha.

Just a little warning to my sister if she's reading this: When you come back, you're watching her Speak Now Live Concert >.<

Suisei no Gargantia Ep 7

After a l o n g, gruelling week of waiting, the latest episode of Gargantia has finally come out! Without further ado, here's the review for:

A Soldier's Fate

So coming back to what happened last week, Red tries to work (but fails), he was then dragged to eat by Amy then Pinion.

He watched Amy's performance and the two of them got closer (finally! :P).

The next day (assuming), he's working with Bellows when they run into a species Chamber identifies as the Hideous.

 Red is naturally pissed and starts fighting the squid-looking thing, to Bellows' horror.

Trust me, it gets weirder.

Anyways, Red successfully kills the squidy thing despite Bellows' pleas for him not to.

Back on land, Bellows is going over what the frick just happened.

She's in quite a foul mood for a while, but I don't blame her. I mean, Red disobeyed her despite the fact he was supposed to listen to her.

Didn't help that the dude in the bottom right picture was teasing her.

But that's another story.

With Ridget, she's panicking because apparently, the whalesquids (which are what they call them) have been sacred to them since ancient times.

The people of Gargantia also think that if a whalesquid is harmed, they will be cursed.

O.O

Pinion, who sees the damage done by Red and the sticky insides of the whalesquid all over Chamber is horrified too.

Red, however, thinks he has done nothing wrong. I don't blame him either. If anything, he saved himself and Bellows.

Frankly speaking, the whalesquid attacked first. Red was just reacting accordingly.

Either way, Red got a sample from the insides of the whalesquid all over Chamber to be processed in order to see the similarities between it and the Hideous species in space.

 Red is waiting for the thingymabob to be processed when Amy walks in.

The two of them lock gazes for quite some time, though none said anything.

On the other hand, Fleet Captain Fairlock was being examined by Dr Oldham. 

I guess his health is really delicate.

Although Dr Oldham insists on Fairlock's retirement, Fairlock says he still wants to protect the people on Gargantia, so he will still remain as Captain.

While all that was happenin', Ridget was scolding Bellows and Red's asses off. 

Red doesn't see the big issue behind the killing of the whalesquids, though. Plus, when he suggested he would kill the remaining, Ridget went completely ballistic and reprimanded him further.

That's when the other right-hand men of the Captain came down, requesting for Ridget's presence in Fairlock's room.

She suggested bringing Red and Bellows along but they refused because Ridget would just keep arguing with them.

After they left, however, someone came in and spoke with one of the men and Bellows stayed behind to eavesdrop.

After Red left the room, he met Amy again, who was waiting by the side.

They then went back to Amy's place, where Red questioned Bebel, asking about the existence of the whalesquids and whether there were any more of them in the sea.

Amy is pretty mad with Red because she's wondering why he searches for war even on Earth when it was a time of peace for them.

Red has a different opinion: What if the whalesquids attack them? 

Bellows and Pinion have a face-off too, because she understands that Pinion has a dumb idea to go down to whalesquid territory to salvage whatever treasures are there.

Pinion gets agitated with her questions too and he mentions something about avenging his brother, though Bellows continues to reject his idea vehemently, saying it's no excuse to go to whalesquid territory.

Returning to the DNA analysis that Chamber processed, it was confirmed that the species was indeed similar to the Hideous and that the only thing that was different was probably the fact that it can survive in the ocean.

Red is, of course, not pleased.

Unfortunately, just then, a look-out notices whalesquid activity. From the looks of it, it wasn't going to be pretty. 

Apparently, a whole wad of them was approaching the ship, which scared the crap out of him. 

He reported back to the authority.

Upon hearing about the activity, Amy immediately leaves the port, headed towards Red.

As she expected, Red, who had gotten an indication from Chamber earlier, was getting ready to board Chamber and fight.

Just as he was about to, however, Amy ran ahead of him and blocked his way.

Fairlock & Co. were frantic when they heard the news too.

Fairlock then made an announcement that everyone was to shut down their electricity and electronics and be absolutely silent until the whalesquids pass.

So they did.

Amy is still trying to persuade Red from attacking when the lights go off.

I know, he's so stubborn, right? :P 

At that moment, Ridget appears and assumes control. She points a gun at Red (with two other men) and says that as long as the whalesquids do not harm the ship, she will not allow any harm to come to them.

So Red had no choice but to listen and stay completely still until the squids finally passed.

When they did, however, Red made the most important decision ever so far in the series.

He had to leave Earth.

Naturally, that's what made Amy tear up. 

Back at Gargantia headquarters, Pinion pitched his idea to ask Red and Chamber to salvage whalesquid territory with him.

Though they weren't so surprised at first, they were surprised when the Head of Defence decided to go with him.

Fairlock became very agitated, which triggered some sort of pain in his chest, making Ridget panic like crazy.

That's pretty much what happened this week :) After a really fast-paced episode last week, I was wondering how much more fast-paced it could get. This episode really outdid itself.

For one, they confirmed that there was existence of Hideous on Earth. The only thing they have to work on now is explaining how the hell it got there.

There was a development for other characters too. I mean, we know a little of Pinion's past, although not much was said except that his brother's probably dead. The story behind that is most likely that his brother was killed by a whalesquid and he wants revenge by destroying their race in return.

Ridget, on the other hand, is starting to piss me off. I mean, Red was saving Bellows and himself from the whalesquid. That's nothing to scold him for, especially since he knew nothing of the whalesquids being "sacred" to them (then again, Red would still kill it even if he knew, but that's not the point).

Which is quite stupid, I think. Why would the whalesquids be sacred to them? To quote a friend of mine: Gargantia's probably the only place where it's a crime to kill a squid, for whatever reason.

Well, either way, I'm dying waiting for the next episode to come out. I wonder if Fairlock dies O.O And if he does, does that mean Ridget will be the next Captain?

And will Red really leave??? O.O

Suisei no Gargantia Ep 6

Okie dokie, finally, the latest episode of Gargantia is here~!! For all those who have been dying to know what happened this week, here's the review for:

Alright!! So last week, we had Red chased by a bunch of transvestites and a small barbecue by the beach. 

This week, however, we first have Red clueless about what he can do about the money he gets from the people of Gargantia.

That's when Amy comes in and "saves" him. She tells him that there are plenty of things that Red can do with money.

She also mentions the "festival" in which is about to dawn. She then says that she might be able to help him get a job catching fish before the festival starts.

Here at the docks, Amy tries to get Red a job with one of the fishermen. 

To his luck, he gets the job and is allowed the operate the machinery.

See, on "Earth", there's a phenomenon that occurs quite rarely where "lightbugs" gather in the ocean (that would be the black-black stuff). 

Apparently, on certain days, the lightbugs gather in such a way that it forms a ring. That way, the fish get caught within the ring :)

And that's when the catching starts.

Ahh~ this here is Red getting familiar with the buttons in the Yunboro that they lent him to go get the fish.

He gives a positive reaction to the numerous buttons in the Yunboro before setting off towards the great ring in the middle of nowhere.

At least, that would have been the case if Red actually got that far. Unfortunately, once he was plopped into the ocean, he started communicating with Chamber, as if there was one in every Yunboro.

O.O

I think you see where this is going :P

Well, although the fishing didn't go as planned, Amy brought Red to eat.

As you can see from the bottom right picture, the bun that Red's eating is seaweed bread.

Trust me, I'm wondering too :P

 Not long after, Melty and Saaya join them and ask Amy why she's not dressed yet.

That's when Amy starts gobbling up her food. After finishing within a timespan of 5 seconds on camera, she thanked Red for the food and sped off with her friends. 

Pinion appeared then and brought Red to eat in some fancy restaurant. 

Obviously it was to be Red's treat. I wasn't expecting Pinion to pay for anything, really.

Though he wasn't impressed with Red's choice of food = seaweed bread.

Whoo~ 

Turns out what Melty and Saaya were getting dressed for was a dance show at the restaurant. 

Flimsy see-through outfits? No doubt there were people applauding and wolf-whistling.

Bellows shows up then and offers to have Red part of her crew, salvaging treasures at the bottom of the sea with Chamber.

She and Pinion have a somewhat heated discussion regarding who would have Red on his/her crew here. 

At one point, I think Pinion said Bellows had a "turtle-shelled ass".

O.O

Back with Chamber, who had decided to volunteer catching the fish, was having troubles doing it the right way as well.

Apparently, after catching the fish, the meat would be all minced.

Minced.

Hilarious, really. 

That's when Red decided to get into Chamber and help them fish.

Requesting help from neighbouring Yunboros, Red and Chamber get started on the fish. 

In no time, Chamber and Red get loads of fish and haul it aboard.

The fisherman, Bellows and Pinion were all impressed, of course, which in turn, made Red really glad.

After the festival was over, Red got a few souvenirs (as I'm sure you see from the crab toy and lollipop in the top left picture).

Breathing a sigh of fresh air and relief (from all the dancing), Amy relaxes, next to Red.

As if just remembering, Red takes out his "flute" and starts blowing it. 

Unfortunately, the sound was quite... terrifying. He shrugged and smiled about it, though.

Just as Amy did in the bottom right picture :)

Red suddenly got jumpy, as did Amy's squirrel. There were flashes of lightning in the sky and Red mistook them for the Hideous creatures he fought back in space.

Which explains his actions when he grabs onto Amy as if to shield her from harm.

Which I think is so cute :P

Amy manages to calm him down, of course.

They then both relax and enjoy the beauty of the scenery before them.

:)

 After realising his hand was still on Amy's shoulder, Red quickly retracts it and the both of them blush like idiots for a moment before Amy jokingly breaks the ice by saying Red needs to practice the flute more to improve.

Red then asks if Amy practices her dance and that he would like to see it again.

Amy agrees, of course -.-

Red is naturally awed by Amy's performance. 

Since he'd probably never seen anyone dance before, it was to be expected that he's gawp like in the top left picture :P

After the special performance from Amy, the both of them head back to her place. Red gives Bebel the crab toy.

He's delighted, and so is Amy :)

The next day (I'm assuming), Red and Chamber is with Bellows, salvaging treasures at the bottom of the ocean.

Chamber proves to be a proficient asset in dealing with delicate things here and Bellows is very satisfied. 

That is, until an unknown origins is detected by Red and Chamber.

Surprise, surprise, when Chamber identifies the creature.

I shan't tell you because it would be too big a spoiler :)

My, my, I must say that I'm really satisfied with this week's episode (except the fact that I have to wait another week to know what happens next -.-). Plenty of Amy-Red moments and, finally, a development in the series.

I mean, granted, there were aspects of entertainment that would have normally seemed unnecessary for the progression of the series, but the episode was definitely not a filler. (Plus, I understand now that the previous episode must have been of some importance because it meant Red was finally seen as part of the family :D)

Since the third episode, I've been on the look-out for anything that would give an indication of the Hideous thingymabob and Red's return to space so this is really refreshing in that sense.

Really happy about the tiny moments between Red and Amy. My heart went キュン! many a time :P Spectacular episode, in my eyes, and I am desperately in anticipation for the next episode :)
